ယခုလမှာ Structure လေးတွေကို ခဏမေ့ထားပြီး punctuation လို့ခေါ်တဲ့ comma, period , semi – colon တို့အကြောင်း လေ့လာကြရအောင်။ အထူးသဖြင့် အင်္ဂလိပ်စာပေလေ့လာသူတိုင်း စိတ်ဝင်စား ကြတဲ့၊ သုံးလိုကြတဲ့ comma လေးကို ကြည့်ကြရအောင်။ comma လေးဟာ တခါတရံမှာ အမှန်တကယ်အရေးပါပါတယ်။ အရင်လက ဖော်ပြခံရတဲ့ adjective phrases လေးတွေကို ကြည့်လေ။ တခါတရံမှာ comma လေးနဲ့ သုံးပြီး တခါတရံမှာ comma လေးတွေ မပါမှ မှန်ပါတယ်။ ဥပမာ – “Peter, living with his parents, works for Cisco .”
” The man living with his parents works for Cisco.”
ပထမဝါကျမှာ Peter လို့ဆိုကတည်းက ဘယ်သူ့ကို ပြောမှန်းသိနေပြီဆိုတော့ living with his parents ဆိုတဲ့ phrase လေးဟာ Non – identifying ပါ။ ဒီတော့ comma လေးတွေထည့်ပေးထားရပါတယ်။ အဲဒီဒုတိယ ဝါကျမှာတော့ living with his parents ဆိုတဲ့ phrase လေးမပါရင် မည်သူကိုဆိုလိုမှန်းမထင်ရှားတဲ့အတွက် Identifying ဖြစ်နေသည့်အတွက် comma လုံးဝမထည့်ရပါ။ အလားတူပါပဲ။ adjective clause လေးတွေ မှာလည်း comma လိုတဲ့ adjective clause နဲ့ comma မလိုတဲ့ မထည့်ရတဲ့ adjective clause ဆိုပြီး ၂ မျိုးရှိတာ မှတ်မိကြမှာပါ။ ဥပမာ “Sarah, who loves the NLD, is a freedom fighter.” “The woman who loves the NLD is a freedom fighter.”
Let’s eat , grandpa.” “Let’s eat grandpa”
“He has many hobbies, he loves horseback riding and bowling.”
“Aung San Su Kyi said, I want what is best for my country.”

The Torch Bearer is Dead

The torch bearer is dead.
For years he held the torch high
Passed on by those who went before
Especially the two architects of Myanmar’s foray into the English language
Saya Han Tin and Saya Thiha Ha
With true passion and integrity
With a heart larger than life
He went about his task of educating the Myanmar masses
No small feat in the face of challenges
A regime more intent on keeping power than doing good
Leaders trying to enrich themselves at the expense of the nation
In Spite of all
He slogged on, focused on his job, dedicated to his dream
Overcoming extreme obstacles in his path
Holding the torch high with pride and with hope
The torch bearer is dead
And I ask you, friend,
who will bear the torch in his place?

(In memory of the late Dr.Myo Myint, who passed away recently)
