Sound Patterns And Grammar In Burmese (2)

အပိုင်း(၂)

Burmese syllables can be divided into (5) categories.

အပိုင်း(၁)မှာတုန်းက ဖေါ်ပြခဲ့ပါတယ်။

ဒီအမျိုးအစား အားလုံးထဲမှာ စိတ်ဝင်စားစရာအေကောင်းဆုံးက    (Tone)  အသံတုန်းဖြစ်ပါတယ်။

ဥပမာ။          စာ     (အသံတန်း) (Level Tone)

စ       ( အသံမြင့်)  ( Creaky Tone)

စား    (အသံမြင့်မှ နိမ့်) (Heavy Tone)

စပ်    ( အသံပိတ်၊ ရပ်) (Stop Tone)

Stop Tone  ဆိုတာကတော့ Glottal Stop သံကိုဆိုလိုတာပါ။

” In Burmese, syllables with high tone are always rather short and closed by a glottal stop, and syllables with the falling and low tones have long vowels and said with breathy voice”

( O’Connor 1973 :241)

Funny?

    Dear TTNU,
It is welcoming such a topic to be put into this column, Myanmar language seems to be a lot more difficult to be pronounced as you prescribed. But it is Myanmar language that attracts me most as it sounds tricky and dangerous if we mispronounced. English also has, as far as I am concerned, some tricky pronunciation differing from how they are spelled as in League or Antique. Well, I would rather welcome you keep on writing this grand topic of yours:Sound Patterns and Grammar in Burmese. What is more, Myanmar grammar is like Subject+Object+Verb but in English Subject+Verb+Object. For example: ကျွန်တော့်မှာဆယ်ဒေါ်လာရှိတယ်၊ ကျွန်တော့်မှာ is Subject ဆယ်ဒေါ်လာ is Object ရှိတယ် is Verb. But in English: I have $10. It is totally different. Anyway I like your Topic and Idea. Please keep on and on. Thank u.
