very good story. It is very good lesson for Burmese people who had been living under fascist dictatorship for very long time. Personal worship and treating the sovereign as a family property are entrenched desire of people in third world. Daw Suu had clearly stated in her speeches that there is no such thing as good and bad person. There is only one who learns from the experiences and other one who never bother to grow up/ refuse to learn from the daily experiences. Democracy works beautiful if the government is elected by vote for 4 or 5 year term. Peaceful uneventful transfer of power under the unwatched eyes of busy citizens is ideal for democracy. But if the same person is elected for second or third term, that leader will be increasingly think that he/she becomes god status. Democracy is messes up by wrong vote of general public. The gentle example is more than 10 years dominance of Labour party in political horizon of Great Britain. The damning story for Burmese is victories of U Nu by elections for almost 14 years. He even boasted to his colleague that he was actually the one who will become god in future. The Burmese people alone can be blame for it for failure of young democracy in Burma. One can get corrupted by getting too much power and the best example is Gen Ne Win and Gen Than Shwe. We should choose democracy with limited term for whatever good the leader will be to protect the elected leader getting corrupted. Yes, I will choose the Lion with limited power to eat me gently rather than living under ruthless dictator the wolf who will eat, maim, torture and dismember not only me but also all citizens. It is indeed very good lesson for all. Well done.
