1902 State Landau
The 1902 State Landau carriage at the Royal Mews in central London, Monday March 21, 2011. The coach will be used to carry Britain’s Prince William and Kate Middleton on their wedding day, Friday April 29, 2011, if the weather is good. If the weather is inclement then the 1881 Glass Coach, traditionally used to transport Royal brides, will be used instead.
================
* Will and Kate opt for horse-drawn carriage
* Couple to use same carriage as Diana
* Middleton will go to abbey in Rolls Royce
IN keeping with royal tradition, Prince William and his new wife Catherine will travel by open-top, horse-drawn carriage to Buckingham Palace on the day of their wedding.
The same ornate carriage that chauffeured newlyweds Prince Charles and Diana in 1981 and Prince Andrew and Sarah (Ferguson) in 1986, will be polished-up for its important role in the April 29 proceedings.
The 1902 State Landau, built for King Edward VII, will transport the prince and his bride from Westminster Abbey along the processional route including The Mall, to Buckingham Palace.
The decorative landau will lead a procession of five horse-drawn carriages on the day, St James’s Palace announced.
The second and third carriages will carry best man Prince Harry, maid of honour Pippa Middleton and four bridesmaids.
Fourth in the procession will be a carriage carrying Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, while the fifth and final vehicle will contain Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, along with the bride’s parents Michael and Carole Middleton.
