Dugongs are gentle, slow moving creatures that look like underwater elephants!
The dugong is a type of marine mammal that is found mainly in the Western Pacific and Indian oceans. It’s also sometimes called the sea cow, and looks a little like a seal or a walrus, and a lot like a manatee. They can weigh over 400 kilos, and grow to over 10 feet long.
Threatened
They are gentle, generally slow moving creatures that look like underwater elephants — and that’s not surprising. Some of their closest living land relatives are, in fact, elephants. Adult males and even some older females may have small tusks.
Dugongs have rounded snouts and a forked tail.
Dugongs feed largely on sea grass. They live for many years, but they grow to maturity only slowly, and they don’t breed very often or very much. A dugong’s natural predators include sharks, but in recent years they have succumbed increasingly to pressures inflicted by humans. Modern threats from humans threaten to drive the dugong to extinction. These include oil spills, entanglement in nets and ship propellers and loss of habitat.
Dugongs probably inspired sailors to invent myths about “mermaids” and “sirens” — half female, half animal creatures.

အခု ကလေးက စိတ်ကူးယဉ် ပုံဖော်တဲ့ ရေသူမ ပုံ ဖြစ်နေလို့ ရေသူမလို့ နာမည် တပ်တာပေါ့.. အတောင်ပါနေရင် လေသူမ လို့ နာမည်ပေးအုန်းမှာ။
