For the third year running the Australia-Burma Friendship Association is presenting the Burmese Thingyan Water Festival/New Year Celebration at the Jingili Water Gardens on Saturday 17th April 2010 from 10.00 am to 2.00 pm. It’s free and everyone is invited!

The 2010 Thingyan Water Festival marks the start of the Burmese New Year which occurs in mid-April – at the height of the summer heat. Water is symbolic for washing away past misdeeds to start the New Year physically and spiritually purified.

This event in Darwin brings together the established and recently arrived Burmese communities and has an outreach to the wider community. Activities will include sprinkling of water, a water slide, cultural dancing and music, traditional food as well as an Aussie barbeque.

For more information about the event contact Gwen Daye (mob: 0428 991 944; email: gwendaye@bigpond.com) or George Tint (mob: 0412 986 986; email: gbtint@yahoo.com.au).
