What’s the essence of life

pandoraAugust 28, 20102min1511

In my experience of  life,I was not contented in finding and learning  things that I eager to do.But,the one point I find is that the older I become, the more meaningless my life is.

And I  began thinking of the essence of life. What is that?In my adult age,I think life will be  meaningful if we are healthy , educated , wealthy and having a high social status in our society. However, when I possess the things I have been trying all the time like education ,good job and property,I find that these things can’t make my life meaningful .Even though I own these things I wish ,I was not contented my life .I thought that I can ‘t brings these things with me to next life when I die .I am not ready for my next life up to now. What happened to me? I was so surprised and realized that I have spent my precious time in wrong way.At that time,an idea flashed into my mind,”What is the essence of Life?”And ”What is the right way to pass through our rest lifetime usefully?”

If you have any good idea for the essence of life, please share me at any time.

    Dear Pandora,

Please study Mangala Sutta to know what’s the essence of life. If you can live in accordance with the advice given in that Sutta (what is commonly known as the Thirty-eight blessings – thonesei-shit-phyar mangala) you will find yourself what life means to you. I once read an advice about people complaining about their lives (which is also a common feature in affluent society) the monk said, “We complain about our shoes until we met someone who has only one leg.” So, comparatively there will always be someone worse off or better-off than you. Until you learn to live with yourself you will not find peace.

Have you ever thought about your name? Didn’t the story goes like this: ‘Pandora’s box was open so quickly that all the evil in the world flew out first and what’s left at the bottom is the good thing called ‘hope’.” So don’t be disappointed with life, try looking at it’s bright side. For Buddhists, we must be thankful that we gain ‘human existence’. By being human we can determine our fate – good or bad. Shunryn Suzuki said, “When you try to understand everything, you will not understand anything. The best way is to understand yourself, and then you will understand everything.” May you live a meaningful life.
