WHITTIER – Relatives last saw Evelyn Dominguez on May 20 when she showed up for her mother’s birthday.
The next news about her came as a jolt.
On June 2, Dominguez’s shoeless body was found in the 12200 block of Rooks Road across the street from the Whittier Narrows Equestrian Center. Homicide detectives believe the 28-year-old was shot where she was found in the unincorporated county area near Whittier.
No suspects have been arrested.
“We were shocked. We didn’t know,” said her niece, Stephanie Dominguez.
Ed Winter, spokesman for the Los Angeles County Department of Coroner said Dominguez died of multiple gunshot wounds and her death was ruled a homicide.
Dominguez was the youngest of five children and was close to her mother, according to Stephanie Dominguez. Evelyn Dominguez left behind a daughter and a son, Stephanie said.
The last time she visited them was in May for her mother’s birthday. She was accompanied by her new partner or husband and another couple, said Stephanie Dominguez.
Dominguez had brushes with the law.
San Bernardino County court records indicate Dominguez had a $25,000 arrest warrant for failing to appear in court on an April 2009 charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.
Los Angeles County online court records show she was convicted of being under the influence of drugs on Aug. 31, 2009.
On April 10, 2007, she was found guilty of making false financial statements. At the same time, charges of unauthorized use of
personal identifying information of another, false personation of another and receiving stolen property were dismissed.
Public records show addresses for her in Los Angeles, South Gate, Bell Gardens, Downey and Cudahy between 2000 and 2007.
