You: Well, you know, they’ve always been power-hungry. They’ve always put their families before the country.
Friend: Any chance, they took a page out of Trump’s playbook.
You: Are you kidding me? Of course! The former President wasn’t able to pull
Sure he inspired the generals, and they were able to pull it off.
Friend: I’m sorry I brought it up. You seemed pretty upset.
You: That’s okay. After all, it was my country of origin.

To A Truly Special Sapphire
There you go again True to from
Always a few steps ahead of us Even as you faced the unthinkable
Age-wise You thought of others first
It wasn’t yet your time to go Those you had helped in the past
But you did Those you were helping then
Leaving us with sweet and sad memories And those you wished to help in the future
As the end neared Precious stones are made to last
You inspired us But first the daughter of a diamond
With your stoic indifference And now you- A truly special sapphire
Carefully noting each labored breath Shining so bright- Go in peace, dear sister
Mindfully observing the rhythms of life and death Nirvana awaits you on the other side.
