At least 345 Muslim pilgrims have died in a crush during the stone-throwing ritual at the Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia, officials say.
Hundreds of pilgrims have also been injured. A BBC correspondent at the scene in Mina saw dozens of bodies lined up on the ground.
The ritual has seen many lethal stampedes but the number of dead this time is the highest in 16 years.
After a crush in 2004, barriers and stewards were added to improve safety.
Bridge surge
The stampede took place at the foot of the bridge of Jamarat, where pilgrims hurl stones at three pillars representing the spot where the devil is said to have appeared to Abraham.

An interior ministry spokesman, Maj Gen Mansour al-Turki, told the Associated Press news agency the crush happened after pieces of luggage spilled from moving buses in front of one of the entrances to the bridge, causing pilgrims to trip.
At least 289 people were injured, according to the Saudi Health Minister Hamad bin Abdullah al-Maneh.

Someone in the two-storey Epitome nightclub on the city’s South Side used pepper spray or Mace, reportedly to break up a fight between three women, some time after 2am (0800 GMT). Clubbers panicked and stormed for the doors, trampling and suffocating others inside the packed building.
“Everybody smashed; people crying, couldn’t breathe,” said Reggie Clark, who was among the approximately 1,500 people in the club at the time. “Two ladies next to me died. A guy under me passed out.”

This was on Black Friday at Wal Mart in Racine, WI. There were some Samsung 50inch plasma screens marked down $100 and people were waiting for these things for a couple hours.
Everyone goes nuts at about 4:00 in the video which was actually 4:57am when I was taping it. A woman gets hit with one of the T.V’s in the head if you can see, we talked to her after and she was bleeding,
BUT she did manage to get one of these T.V’s. And to the man who was cranky that he didn’t get a T.V., you’re not an employee or a cop so I’m gonna tape all I want, thank you. p.s this was recorded on my Lg EnV 2 phone I just got so sorry for the horrible quality.

ABIDJAN, Ivory Coast – A Red Cross official in Ivory Coast says two people were killed and 30 wounded in a stampede at a reggae concert in the rebel-controlled city of Bouake.
Philippe Beauverd said Sunday that a team of local Red Cross workers treated 29 people at the stadium and sent one to the hospital with more serious injuries.
