Gillard noted that Chinese people boosted long tradition in the growth of Australia and marks an important part of the nation.
….”But we know for certain that from the 1820s onwards, the Chinese has been a proud part of this nation.”
Gillard also praised Chinese people’s resilience against frustration and failure, stressing that some of Chinese migrants won success out of misfortune through diligence and thrifty. “It took a remarkable courage to travel from a different culture and build new future in a strange land,” she said….
She said the Australian Chinese community was in the position to form a special bridge of friendship and understanding.
At last (Lastly), Gillard said Australian Chinese has the hardest Australian story and “it is truly fitting the Chinese New Year and the Australia Day fall so close together, as celebrations and our stories belong together”.
“As the lunar new year begins, I honor the Australian Chinese community and say thank you. As to those born in the year of rabbit, I offer my special good wishes,” she said.
