In celebration of “2550th Buddha Jayanti,” Bangladesh Buddhist Center of America (“BBCA”) organized a cultural program in May 2006. The program was held in New York City.
Very happy to see the Bangladesh buddhists able to practice their religion without persecution from the Muslims, like back in Bangladesh. Buddhists in Bangladesh are discreminated against, their land confiscated and houses burned by fanatic muslims, aided by the military.

The Buddha’s birthday is traditionally celebrated on the 8th day of the 4th month of the Chinese lunar calendar. This year, the date fell on May 24th, but the celebration continued for a while at the Truc Lam Vietnamese Temple, 1521 W. Wilson Ave. The folks at the temple were kind enough to invite YoChicago’s Barry Pearce inside for a look around.
